Australian cricket authorities also fear the impact on the future of the summer game by aggressive marketing campaigns from AFL and rugby league.
A Cricket Australia discussion paper, prepared for 180 Australian cricket stakeholders before a five-day conference in August, reveals that with the new 20/20 game about to get a boost in finances cricket is looking at alternatives.
This time it's the ball size, suggesting that bowlers need to be more affective in the 20/20 version, it has been muted that if the ball was golf ball size it would give bowlers a better chance.
Under the present system bowlers are being belted out of the ground to often, the smaller ball would be harder for the batsmen to see and hit.
When hit however it is likely it would never be found, this would mean replacing balls quite often.
Then again it would not be the first time someone has lost their balls on this game.
