The Little Company of Mary Healthcare had threatened the ACT Government with legal action if it tried to open a new hospital in north Canberra.
Health Minister Katy Gallagher told a Gungahlin community meeting last night.
The Gallagher's bombshell rocked the meeting hosted by the Gungahlin Community Council, which had been called to give residents the chance to push their case for a new hospital in the town's centre.
Ms Gallagher told residents she had just come from a meeting with Calvary staff, who believed the owners' lease arrangements gave them exclusive right to run an acute care hospital in the city's north.

She said Calvary had threatened to sue the Government should it proceed with plans for another hospital in the north.

Gungahlin Community Council spokesman Alan Kerlin said he was deeply concerned with the behaviour from Calvary.
''And I want them to know they are not the only players in this.''

The people in the ACT call the shots not a religious business entity.

A Calvary spokesman declined to comment.
DOES THIS MAN HAVE THE RIGHT
