QUEENSLAND SWINGS BUT... DID THEY SWINGER TO FAR!

A resounding victory for the LNP in Queensland....Now they must govern.

Queensland's voters have swung and they have done so decisively, however this is not a win for Democracy, it is a state with no upper house, no watchdog to overlook  bad legislation and now, not a viable opposition.

The people in Queensland have not thought hard about their vote's value, they have given this new government unprecedented power, sure they wanted a change, however was it smart to give total control.

They could be very sorry about how large a gift they have given, an unaccountable government can be very dangerous.

Remember Sir Johannes "Joh" Bjelke-Petersen he held office in Queensland from 1968 to 1987 with a huge majority, in its later years, was revealed to be institutionally corrupt, made him one of the best-known and most controversial political figures of 20th century.

He suppressed political opposition of any kind, and number of senior government figures were subsequently jailed for corruption.
It was open slather for developers and even the police force was up to it's eyeballs in corruption, some of which was condoned by government.

Campbell Newman is no "Joh", he I believe is a pretty honest bloke, however the temptations that will come with this much power are considerable, he will have to run a tight ship with plenty of internal oversight.

As for LNP government we will have to wait and see, there are many factions and some of the old guard will be thinking it will return to "Joh's old days", jobs for the boys and lining  developers and miners pockets.

Campbell Newman has a huge task ahead, he seems quite genuine, the question is will the power brokers put up with him (this upstart) if he shows that he is a small L liberal.
It is one thing to portray his small L liberal qualities in an election campaign, another to get support for his ideas within the party.

A majority this size empowers the powers that be within the party to to dump whoever they like, this includes Campbell Newman.
Winning a huge majority does not ensure his immunity, they may think that they are now unbeatable, with or without him.

The ALP deserved to loose this election, of that there is no doubt, they did so with flying colours.

I hope the people of Queensland don't regret voting in this new LNP by such a large margin.

I'm not suggesting that the devil you know is better than the devil you don't know but power corrupts and this new government has oodles of power.

We watch with interest, GOOD LUCK QUEENSLAND!
