Saudi King rallies behind Mubarak

Abdullah slams 'intruders' tampering with security
AFP Published: 00:00 January 30, 2011: Edited S W T Read Jan 30, 2011
Saudi King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz expressed his support for Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak and slammed those "tampering" with Egypt's security and stability, it was reported yesterday.
Abdullah condemned "intruders"who were"tampering with Egypt's security and stability ... in the name of freedom of expression.
Saudi Arabia, he said, "stands with all its means with the government and people of Egypt."
Mubarak assured King Abdullah that "the situation is stable in Egypt and what the world has seen is nothing.
No more than an attempt by some ... suspicious groups which do not want stability and security for Egyptians."
I believe we call these suspicious people citizens, who are entitled to freedom of speech and freedom of assembly.
Saudi King Abdullah Bin Abdul may be a little worried himself, he has also been in power for many years, although somewhat more moderate in the way he treats his people.

ABBOTT SAYS AUSTRALIANS ARE SO MEAN THEY WON'T BUY A CUP OF COFFEE FOR A GOOD CAUSE

Australia has to work to rebuild infrastructure and homes, yet Tony Abbott has only one home in mind, he has his eyes firmly set on The Lodge, and I think frankly that's disgusting he is playing politics..

Communities have been shattered, there's been enormous loss of life and Mr Abbott is using this event for his own political gains. He's playing politics at a time when there's families here in distress.

Six out of 10 Australians will pay less than a $1 a week for the flood levy,if you are on $80,000 it's ... $2.80 less than one cup of coffee per week.

He is now suggesting that we scrap the water buy back program because there is plenty of water at the moment.
Does he have inside information on the weather, is he saying that there will be no more droughts-come on, he's got to be kidding.

Scrooge has nothing on this guy.

I'm becoming completely disillusioned by his stupidity, does he honestly think that Australians are so gullible and mean that they would deny such a small contribution for the good of the country.

The opposition has only a limited number of deities, power and money, wouldn't it be great to see a new deity called compassion included included in their prayers.

EGYPT--MUBARAK APPOINTS A FOX TO LOOK AFTER THE HEN HOUSE

Mubarak has named Omar Suleiman as Vice President

Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak has named intelligence chief Omar Suleiman as his first ever vice-president as he struggles to regain control of the country.

Has without any regard for the people he has appointed probably one of the most disliked officials in Egypt. I'm sure his appointment was not discussed with the US or anyone else.

He has been in charge of limiting freedom of speech, eradicating opposition parties, controlling the Internet and locking up anyone dissenting with the government.

How is it that a so called clever strong leader such as Mubarak can't have some understanding of his own people.

The reason is simple, he has been in power to long and been supported blindly by it's great friend America.

This head in the sand attitude by the US and Israel has not helped, Egypt is very important, their own intelligence should have told them that the people are not happy chappies, this has been brewing for years.

Even as recent as last week the US stated that Mubarak's government was sound and everything in Egypt was fine.

Perhaps Mubarak and the US should have been reading up on Egypt on WickiLeaks or listening to their own intelligence, because anyone with intelligence would have seen the writing on the wall.

I'm sure that US and Israeli diplomats are running around like chooks with their heads cut of, wondering what went wrong, how come we didn't know. Surprise, Surprise,Surprise!!!!

Cluck,Cluck,Cluck a Fox for a guard, is this a joke, isn't it.......@**.

ENGLAND TO SELL WOODLANDS-- WHAT A CRAZY IDEA!!

England forests sell-off: Government outlines plans

Government will raise about 10 million pounds a year for ten years, why bother it's laughable.

Britain's woodlands are precious for millions of people, a source not only of great curiosity but also great fulfilment.

They offer important habitats to much loved wildlife, as well as enjoyment and beauty to families up and down the country.

It's no surprise that there has been an upswell of public concern at the prospect that our island's natural life might be auctioned off at a government-sponsored jumble sale.

The government must now guarantee not only the complete right of access to all our forests but also the budget for their protection and restoration.

This idea is political ideology, nothing more, I can't imagine Australians standing still for such a sale of bushland.

This is the sheriff of Nottingham all over again, where's Robin Hood.

AN AUSSIE ROBIN HOOD MIGHT HELP

AUSTRALIAN FAIRY TALE--COULD THIS REALLY HAPPEN--IF ONLY!!

Australian politics will never be the same again after the Opposition supported the government's levee to rebuild flood ravaged Queensland.

In a press conference held by Tony Abbott the leader of the opposition he announced "The opposition is joining forces with the government and the people, we believe that this small levee will allow all of us to feel that we are contributing in a small way".
"We as Australians will pull together".
"The opposition is not there to just oppose everything, it is here to show we are the alternative government".

Journalists were stunned to hear such logic from a leader such as Abbott who has attacked the government continuously over very trivial things in the past.

FAST FORWARD......................................................>

A press conference was held this morning by Tony Abbott, he informed the journalists that his earlier statements were a terrible mistake.
He then went on to say that he would under no circumstances ever agree with the government on anything.

As for how to deal with the rebuilding required in Queensland, he said that as the government had caused the rain to fall so heavily it was their problem, so they should pay.
"We feel we have no responsibility in this area" he said "We didn't cause it, and as for the flooding in Victoria.
Let me tell you, it was a Labor government that was in when it started to rain, need I say more".

It should be noted that at the first press conference he did not have written notes, at this conference he followed his notes to the letter.

WickLeaks COLLECTS GOVERNMENT'S MANURE TO HEAT CHURCH

WikiLeaks servers run so hot with governments leaked bullshit they could easily heat local church

HEAT from the WikiLeaks website's Swedish servers could be used to warm a local church, a proposal states.
The underground server facility in Stockholm that is home to the website's servers gives off so much excess heat that it could power the nearby Sofia Church, say reports.
"We use a lot of electricity to operate our servers, and warmth is a by-product of all that electricity," said Bahnhof CEO Jon Karlung. "The church is right above us, so we thought maybe we could help warm up the church with our excess heat."
Karlung said that heat generated by the whistle-blowing website could be given free of charge to the 105-year-old building.
"WikiLeaks is concerned with the truth, and there is a Christian saying about the truth and life," Karlung joked.
The beauty of this source of energy is that the more governments attack WickiLeaks, the more energy is generated.
The quality of this garbage increases ex potentially as long as governments encourage their internal leaking.

DEAD HEAT AT POOL

Council defends crematorium plan to heat pool

By Danielle Dwyer, PA: Edited by S W T Read
Monday, 24 January 2011
A council has defended "insulting and insensitive" plans to heat a swimming pool with a crematorium incinerator.
Redditch Borough Council in Worcestershire has drawn up proposals to use excess heat generated by the incinerator at the town's crematorium to warm the water for swimmers at the nearby Abbey Stadium Sports Centre.
A spokesman for the Conservative-run authority said: "Redditch Borough Council, with a commitment to reducing carbon dioxide emissions, is considering proposals to re-use energy at its crematorium to heat a nearby leisure centre.
"The heat would otherwise be exhausted into the atmosphere."
"It goes to show yet again that the Conservatives know the price of everything and the value of nothing.
"Unfortunately, local authorities are increasingly pursuing desperate polices in a reaction to the unprecedented spending cuts imposed from Whitehall.
"This just shows that the Government's slashing of funding is impacting on the ability of local authorities to provide our services."

AUSTRALIA--FACT IS WORSE THAN FICTION--UNBELIEVABLE !!!!

The Sunday Mail (Qld) January 23, 2011 12:00AM Edited by S W T Read Jan 23, 2011 7:59am

UNBELIEVABLE AND HEARTLESS

A HEARTLESS Queensland Health bureaucrat demanded staff explain why they were not at work during Brisbane's devastating floods and to provide photos proving they were victims.
While Premier Anna Bligh was calling on businesses to show compassion, Queensland Health was ordering staff to justify their absence.
This was the latest kick in the teeth for thousands of hard-working Queensland Health staff.
These are the people who went underpaid for weeks during the bungled pay system rollout last year.
Health Minister Paul Lucas yesterday said the memo was an insult, and the bureaucrat who issued it had been disciplined.
"This is one of the most insensitive and stupid emails to be sent to staff that I have seen in my ministerial career," he said.
"It is just so offensive to Queensland Health staff who go above and beyond the call."
In my opinion this bureaucrat should be sacked without delay, there is no room for this sort of action in the 21st century.
I support bringing back the lash just for this person, although I don't think even the lash would bring commonsense to this this idiot.
The memo, sent on January 10, reminded workers to provide firm evidence - including photos - to substantiate "flood leave".
"What attempts were made to use any other route to work, what attempts were made for the staff member to work at another Government location (as per the policy).
"If a photo can be supplied this will help to simplify the approval process."
The memo remained in place while residents were being warned to prepare for a flood "bigger than 1974" and while the community rallied to help fellow victims.

COALITION WANTS TO SELL MEDIBANK PRIVATE TO LESSON COMPETITION--TO FUND FLOODS

Another harebrained scheme hatched,

Opposition finance spokesman Andrew Robb wants Medibank Private to be sold, saying it would raise up to $4.5 billion and free up $660 million in recurrent budget spending over a four-year period.

The money could be used to fund restructuring the flooded areas in Australia.

Getting rid of Medibank Private would give private funds open slather, without an honest broker to compete with. Every scheme hatched by Robb benefits the private sector, with no thought for the average Joe.

This is a typical fix for the coalition, they were against the mining tax, against the NB and against every progressive thing that the present government brings up, including improving hospitals and schools.

If the wheel was invented in this country we would still be dragging ourselves around on lumps of tree trunk.

Innovation is not a strong point of the Coalition, as for telephony we would still be using two tin cans and a piece of string.

AUSTRALIA IS OUR LAND--WE'LL NEVER DO A SWAP

The floods across Australia prompted me to pen this poem and brings to mind what type of country Australia is, it's harshness and unforgiving climate.
Along with the tough times it gives us, we except the wonderful weather, look forward to the softness of the rain, the crunch of frost under our feet, the sunshine, our wonderful beaches and big sky.

WHEN THE RAIN CAME

When the rain came, it was loud on the tin roof
It reassured us, we hadn't heard it for quite a while
The sound of it's footprints sounded good
Then we knew the draught was dead
It was good, we didn't mind
But it didn't stop this rain we'd missed
It just kept coming, coming on
We heard the noise of water running
Coming down the mountains, filling up the streams
It was coming our way, we could tell
Creeks were rising, rising a lot
Fences were swallowed as if never there
Just short stumps poking through the air
The shed went away, with all in side
The old hay baler, the bloody old truck too
Then the hay bales, we lost the lot
We're still okay though, no ones hurt
Then it happened the house started to lurch
It rose up, moved this way and that
The door flew open water rushed in
That really good water when it came in
Was not so friendly, as it had been
It wasn't kind, it picked us up, threw us around
This water wasn't kind it wasn't good
We clung to whatever we could find
Just staying alive was on our mind
Then all became quiet, then quite still
Was this the end, the end of ourselves
We looked out on the scene that was left
We were lucky, luckier than most
We had one another, we were left
Then the sun came up and the ground was wet
The draught was gone, we were all that was left
Then we realised just what it means
A sun burned country a land of flooding rains
Fires that we battle, over and over again
We know it is our heritage, it is just our lot
It's the land we know, we love it, even when it hurts
Our land is this Australia, we'll never do a swap

EXTREMIST JEWISH ATTACK ONCE AGAIN-FREEDOM OF SPEECH-NOT WHERE THEY ARE CONCERNED!!

Colin Firth as King George VI and Helena Bonham Carter as the Queen Mother in The King's Speech.

Colin Firth as King George VI and Helena Bonham Carter as the Queen Mother

in The King's Speech.

Nazi claim threatens Firth's Oscar night

There are fears that its success at next month's Oscars could be hampered by an email apparently being circulated to members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences by extremist Jewish members to those who vote on the awards, accusing the film of ''glossing over'' history.
Every piece of history is checked by these extremists, it seems that the new term is glossing over history, not that the film is wrong, it is just that it does not suit these extremists views of how it should be depicted.
It alleges that George VI, the father of the Queen, actively ''stymied'' efforts by Jews fleeing Nazi Germany to settle in British-controlled Palestine.
These people are no different or less dangerous than fundamentalists of all creeds, god forbid that they should ever have an open mind on any subject.
The Jews are not the only people ever persecuted, nor unfortunately will they be the last I'm afraid.
Does this give them the right to be judge and jury on every artistic endeavour, if this film is inaccurate why not say so.
If it is only an opinion that is coloured by fundamentalism it is not a valid reason to denigrate an artistic endeavour.

Some have called 2010 the worst year of U.S./China relations in a decade. It wasn't great for Chinese diplomacy generally or the US.
Many countries are not happy with China's increased influence in the world, however they all realise they had better get used to it.
Chinese President Hu Jintao comes to Washington this week. This is his first visit since 2006, and likely will be his last as he steps down next year.
From the leadership point of view, it's very important, indeed. We're going to see wall-to-wall summit coverage, that's going to happen on television and in the newspapers.
It's very important for President Hu to get the prestige and the face that he will get here at home from standing, shaking hands with President Obama.
The U.S. is recognized as still being the major superpower in the world(for a while yet) and this is symbolic of China's rise as a power.
Ordinary people don't actually care too much. It's amazing. I think they're really too busy either making money or scraping just to get by.
They should take notice, because it's about the changing of the guard and we are not very well informed about China. All the coverage is tainted by bias from all sides.
All we can say, using history as the barometer, is that historically they are not an aggressive nation (accept with Japan), and we must hope that history is not proved wrong.
Will we have aircraft carriers flying the Chinese flag in all the oceans of the world like the US, making the world a safer place for us??.
Who knows, all we can do is keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.

AUSTRALIA SHOULD FIX IT PROPERLY--FORGET THE COST--FORGET THE SURPLUS

The AGE

BUSINESS leaders have urged government to spend what it takes to fix the economic damage from the floods - and worry later about returning the federal budget to surplus.
Three members of a business taskforce appointed to advise on the flood recovery said that the imperative for the Federal, Bligh and Baillieu governments was to get the wheels of commerce turning again, infrastructure rebuilt and lives back to normal.
''No one in Queensland or in Horsham or in Echuca or Rochester will thank government for staying in surplus if they lose their jobs and their businesses shut down,'' said the chief executive of the Australian Industry Group, Heather Ridout.
Trucking magnate Lindsay Fox agreed. ''I think we've just got to get everyone up and going. Whether we finish up in a deficit or in a positive balance is not important.
It's more important that we've got everyone in Australia working and having nobody in difficulties like exist at the moment,'' he said.
Jock Laurie of the National Farmers Federation said: ''You can't be in a situation where you've got a state like Queensland and you only sort of patch it up and say that's all we can afford at the moment because we must stay in surplus.

WHO REALLY OWNS THE CABS IN CANBERRA-Not the drivers!

New plates release 'will drive cabbies to wall' so say the owners

18 Jan, 2011 08:27 AM: Edited by Stephen W T Read 11:43

Has any one in Canberra tried to book a cab lately, you ring , book then if it ever arrives you pay $4.50 for the booking.

Drivers, not owners will tell you that booking a cab means nothing, and does not mean you will get one.
Then drivers tell you that the only way of guaranteeing a cab is to book Silver Service(part of the same company) for a booking fee of $12.50.

Owner drivers are a rarity, multiple cabs are owned by one person, they pay drivers a pittance and then complain when the gov't releases new plates.

The service in the ACT is atrocious particularly for the disabled who sometimes wait hours for a cab.

The government should ensure that ownership of cabs cannot be monopolised by a few.

The ACT Government says it is putting an extra 25 taxis on Canberra's roads in an effort to tackle the capital's chronic shortage of cabs. Despite the objections of drivers,it's not the drivers complaining to any new cabs on the road it's the greedy owners.

The Government is threatening to release 25 more licences at the end of this year if response times in the city don't improve.
Chief Minister and Minister for Territory and Municipal Services Jon Stanhope also announced four(not enough) new wheelchair taxi plates this year and the introduction of a centralised booking service that he said would improve reliability and service for disabled passengers.

There is also to be a system that links further releases of taxi licences to the city's population growth.
