President Barack Obama has signed a secret order authorizing covert U.S. government support for rebel forces seeking to oust Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, government officials told Reuters on Wednesday.

Obama signed the order, known as a presidential "finding", within the last two or three weeks, according to government sources familiar with the matter.

Such findings are a principal form of presidential directive used to authorize secret operations by the Central Intelligence Agency. This is a necessary legal step before such action can take place but does not mean that it will.

"As is common practice for this and all administrations, I am not going to comment on intelligence matters," White House spokesman Jay Carney said in a statement. "I will reiterate what the president said yesterday -- no decision has been made about providing arms to the opposition or to any group in Libya."?

As someone with a disability I find your statements about the disabled very offensive, as one who has to live with a disability, who finds that doors do not allow me to enter a toilet or that all curbs are at right angles, even at disabled parking spots there are no ramps, I could go on and on............

You are defining all people with disabilities as bludgers, this is Australia where everyone deserves a fair go, come on buddy where is the fair go gone in Australia.

If you are fair go person why don't you put a bill to parliament that ensures a fair go for us.

That would at least gives us the right of entry to essential services like other Australians.

Come on Barry we have heard it all before from both Coalition and Labor, is this going to be the reason for not keeping election promises whoa are we.


Barry you won the election easily why do you revert to the old slogan "A BLACK HOLE", in your election campaign you said that the reason for the NSW surplus was they didn't do anything in way of infrastructure.


Now suddenly it's a black hole, honesty,honesty is whats needed, lets be honest which reason is valid.


Do not start using the previous government's excuses.


The reasons behind your logic of not enough infrastructure spending is valid, why do you fall into the old trap of "THE GREAT BIG BLACK HOLE"

Barry O'Farrell has promised the state's voters that his coalition government will not let the state down.

"This is the victory for everyone who wanted to make NSW number one again," he told jubilant supporters in at the party's celebrations in western Sydney.

"I am incredibly proud of today's historic and unprecedented result.

"I want to thank all the people of the state for putting their trust in the NSW Liberals and Nationals.

"And I promise we won't let you down."

O'Farrell has a big job ahead of him and in opposition he wasn't inspiring, in fact he almost did nothing, all he had to do was stand by and watch the ALP implode.

He did not have to be clever or inventive as opposition leader.

Today that has all changed and he is now being called an ideas man by the spin doctors and yet with all the new talent being elected, he is still opting for a team of has been's who were very indecisive in opposition.

It is now time for him to show true leadership, pick a fresh team don't fall into the same trap as the ALP, don't let the factions within the Liberal party dictate who gets what job.

In opposition people are not inclined to fight for the spoils, in government it's a different story and the people will be harsh judges.

A large win has no bearing on the result of the next election.

The people of NSW have watched a party disintegrate before their eyes, by criminal mismanagement.

Beware Barry, the people will not stand by and watch it happen again for so long.

Petrol prices to rise again and again!!- WHY--WHY--WHY

The benchmark international crude price rose to more than $US106.50 at one stage yesterday, the highest since September 2008.


I must be stupid, when oil rose to $150 a barrel we paid a maximum of $1.45 per liter, why are we paying $1.49 when the price per barrel is about $115 per barrel, who's being ripped off by who.


The oil companies are doing what they like, when they like, our government, all governments are doing nothing.


Its about time we heard from the governments around the world, why do they let oil companies dictate the price of oil.


If they are only paying $115 per barrel why are we paying more than we did when it was $150 per barrel.


A proper investigation of pricing is long over due, every investigation to date has come down on the side of the oil companies.


Do they own governments, it sure as hell looks like it!

POLITICIANS WITH CONVICTION---IS THIS A COMPLETE CONTRADICTION

Conviction politicians are hard to find in Australia these days.

The then Liberal Party federal director, Lynton Crosby, said his research ten years ago turned up two genuine conviction politicians - John Howard and Bob Brown.(we could doubt his conclusions)

Today, the leaders of the two major parties - Julia Gillard and Tony Abbott - are constantly wrestling with the concept, confusing the public about their positions on key policies.

Julia Gillard and Tony Abbott have both had trouble with climate change policy, both have had changed their minds on the issue several times.

If Tony Abbott's recent actions are anything to go by, Abbott feels he needs a boost to his "direct action" policy on climate change.

He recently sat down with former leader Malcolm Turnbull and asked him whether he would now embrace the Coalition's policy. Turnbull said he could not.

Abbott then tried to persuade him to at least soften his stance, again Turnbull refused telling Abbott that he had to understand he felt absolutely committed to his position.

The conversation is evidence that if Turnbull is intent on one day again leading the Liberal Party, it will be on his terms.

He refused to give an inch when his leadership was challenged, and as a result, he went down by one vote and that was because one member was unavailable.

Had he offered the party just a semblance of compromise, he probably would have survived. And still he remains true to his convictions.

If Lynton Crosby was to update his research after 10 years, whose name do you think would now emerge as a genuine conviction politician? But the Coalition is unlikely to ask the question for fear they may not like the answer.

Hanson and Oldfield bury the hatchet

Former One Nation leader Pauline Hanson and her estranged adviser David Oldfield have buried the hatchet after a bitter falling out more than 10 years ago.

Brisbane-born Ms Hanson is standing as an independent in Saturday's NSW election after moving to the NSW Central Coast in March.

She came face to face with her former One Nation adviser Mr Oldfield, now a Fairfax Radio presenter, for a question and answer session with listeners on his Thursday morning program.

The pair had not been in the same room for 11 years, after Ms Hanson expelled Mr Oldfield from the party in 2000.

Adding fuel to the drama, she published a memoir in 2007, Untamed and Unashamed, that maintained their love was consumated in 1996 at an upmarket trailer park at Narrabundah, in Canberra's south.

 Three flavours of marijuana-laced ice cream went on sale in California last week.  Dubbed High Scream, the dopey dessert was introduced at a medical marijuana dispensary in Santa Cruz as an alternative to smoking pot.

Only medical patients who have prescriptions allowing them to use marijuana for pain control and other treatments can buy the new product.

Officially known as Creme De Canna, the marijuana-infused ice cream now comes in three flavours — Banannabis Foster, Straw-Mari Cheesecake and TRIPle Chocolate Brownie — with more flavours on the way.

“It’s been my passion to make medical marijuana not only highly effective, but deliciously amazing,” creator Jonathan Kolodinski told the San Jose Mercury News. “I’ve wanted to bring my product line to the market for a long time.”

The ice cream sells for $15 per half-pint and contains the equivalent of two to four does of marijuana, according to the label.

The maker hopes to sell his product to legal marijuana dispensaries across North America, but his biggest market will likely remain California, there have been enquiries from the UK and Australia.

TONY ABBOTT has mocked Julia Gillard's decision to attend next month's royal wedding, saying she does not believe in God, the monarchy or marriage.

Mr Abbott, a staunch Catholic and monarchist who is married with children, questioned Ms Gillard's bona fides to attend the wedding during yesterday's joint party room meeting.

He was seeking to explain a boost for the government and a slump for the Coalition in the latest Newspoll.

Labor's primary vote rose six percentage points in a fortnight, the Coalition's fell five points and Mr Abbott's personal ratings plunged.

Mr Abbott attributed the government's boost to Ms Gillard ''hobnobbing'' over the past fortnight with the US President, Barack Obama, in Washington, and with Prince William in Australia.

 Kevin Rudd says he hopes the UN Security Council resolution on Libya has not come too late.

The security council today approved a resolution permitting "all necessary measures'' to impose a no-fly zone, protect civilian areas and impose a ceasefire on Muammar Gaddafi's military.

Mr Rudd, who has been involved in lobbying for the resolution, said it was an important step.

"Let us all hope and pray that this final resolve of the international community is not too late for the people of Libya," he told reporters in Canberra.

"This is an important step in the diplomatic battle.

"It has been long fought, now the military battle on the ground has been joined and therefore ... we would support the implementation of the provisions of this resolution.

No action against Doomadgee officers

• QUEENSLAND'S anti-corruption watchdog is powerless to challenge a decision not to take disciplinary action against police who botched the Palm Island death-in-custody investigations.
  Crime and Misconduct Commission chairman Martin Moynihan said it was "almost incomprehensible" that the police service had found the six officers did not have a case to answer.
  He says the service must now explain itself to the family of Cameron Doomadgee, who died on the floor of the island's watchhouse, and to all Queenslanders.
  Deputy Police Commissioner Kathy Rynders found the officers should face only "managerial guidance" for their roles in what the CMC called flawed investigations into Mr Doomadgee's 2004 death.
  Mr Doomadgee died from massive internal injuries after a scuffle with his arresting officer, Senior Sergeant Chris Hurley, who was later acquitted of manslaughter.
  The CMC had vowed to take the matter to the tribunal if it was dissatisfied with the police response.
  Mr Moynihan today confirmed a legal loophole had left the CMC powerless to challenge the police service's position in the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
  But Mr Moynihan said the loophole meant that was it was no longer an option - the CMC's hands were tied and after six long years the case was closed.
