Opposition Leader Tony Abbott says he will not support plain-packaged cigarettes.
He does so as the tobacco industry threatens to slash the cost of cigarettes if the Gillard government pushes ahead with the anti-smoking legislation.
He is not sure that the"plain packaging proposal" will work, he failed to mention that the Tobacco Industry contributes heavily to the Coalition's coffers.
Health campaigners and Health Minister Nicola Roxon have branded the tobacco industry's threat to cut the cost of cigarettes if plain packaging is introduced as a stunt, it shows that they have no interest in the health of Australians.
Ms Roxon said she expected the fight from the tobacco industry, but not from Mr Abbott.
"We thought he would side with protecting Australian lives, not with big tobacco," said Ms Roxon.
First it was support for the big miners, now its big tobacco, which multinational is next to have Coalition support ahead of the Australian people?
As representatives of the PEOPLE surely they should place Health first when considering legislation.
THE COALITION
THEY SUPPORT THIS
THEY MUST HAVE THEIR HEADS IN THE SAND
