Man in need of prison medical care robs a bank
US man has robbed a bank of just $1 because he was desperate to be sent to prison.
Richard Verone held up a Chicago-based financial institution and then waited for police to come and arrest him purely because he wanted to go to jail so he could receive medical care.
The unemployed 59-year-old explained he was suffering from two ruptured back discs, a problem with his foot and an undiagnosed growth in his chest, and he was unable to get medical treatment for his ailments.
After requesting a three-year-sentence, he told police: "I'm sort of a logical person and that was my logic.
If it is called manipulation, then out of necessity because I need medical care, then I guess I am manipulating the courts to get medical care."
