Cost of Loaf of bread will break you at £32
BREAD provided on prescription costs taxpayers in Wales 14 times the cost of the same item in the shops, Wales on Sunday has learned.
The gluten-free bread priced at whopping £32.27, provided to people with the serious condition coeliac disease and available in shops for just £2.25.
This is one of scores of prescription items for which the Welsh NHS pays vastly inflated sums.
Biscuits, pasta and cake made gluten free cost vastly over the price of the same items in shops.
A bag of pasta costs £3.20 in stores, but £11.54 on average when prescribed.
A packet of gluten-free plain biscuits cost £2.22 in the shops, but costs the NHS an average price of £7.14.
