IRELAND BASHES AUSTRALIA
A first win over Australia in the Southern Hemisphere since 1979, a maiden Rugby World Cup triumph over the Wallabies.These were the just rewards for a supremely committed and tactically astute display from Ireland on a wet night in Auckland.
From Cian Healy through to full-back Rob Kearney and the replacements, Ireland produced a level of performance that left the Australians stranded with no chance to pu their dangerous backs into space.
With with try-scoring chances few and far between, but it held the crowd at Eden Park in awe of Ireland's clever, gritty play saw them deservedly pull nine points clear of the Wallabies.
The result ends Ireland's long wait for a landmark win on Southern Hemisphere soil, and blows the Rugby World Cup wide open with Declan Kidney's men now on course for a quarter-final meeting.
