AUSTRALIAN are disappointed by the quality of leadership.
The political debate is ''descending into farce'', we need a political leader with vision, this research shows.
''People haven't warmed to Julia Gillard, they are also uncertain and sceptical about Tony Abbott,'' says the director of Ipsos, which conducted a survey to find out what's in peoples minds and the mood of voters.
''They are not excited or interested in him as an opposition leader.
A report on the nationwide survey says: ''Discussion about political leaders was overwhelmingly negative". Participants indicated a strong sense of disappointment in the quality and behaviour of leaders.
''Some felt that the quality of leaders was so bad that the political debate was descending into farce.''
Participants are quoted as saying things like.
''I don't want to vote Labor. I don't want to vote Liberal."
"I don't want to vote for any of them''.
"They think we care about the personality rather than the policies and we don't''.
Others told the researchers that ''Australians deserve a lot better from politicians, both sides of the fence … they continually fight, squabble and argue about power. They've got no integrity.''
"The mining tax was viewed to be feeble at best and, at worst, something of a farce which would hardly make a dent in the massive profits of the mining companies.''
''It's kind of like who do you vote for at the moment, Curly or Moe?
"Because they're all a bit of a joke at the moment".
We've lost all the characters of years gone, those who could debate policy intelligently and had some charisma.
Also the leaders of the past did not pander to the press, the 24hr news cycle and daily polls like performing seals.
You look at the alternatives, it just doesn't feel like there's anyone there, is there anyone there?
